The William Mathias Composition Prize is organised by the Bangor Music Festival, which is committed to encouraging composers and to the promotion of new music.

Composition details:
The prize will be offered for a work for flute (no doubling), viola, harp and percussion (marimba, vibraphone, bass drum, snare drum, and a few common hand held percussion).
The work should have been composed on or after 2014 and last between 4 and 10 minutes; there are no restrictions in terms of style.
Two compositions will be selected and performed by Ensemble CGWM during the main concert at 1.00pm on Saturday, 17th of February 2024 at the Studio, Pontio, Bangor University. Selected composers are required to be present during the Festival for the morning rehearsal and the afternoon concert. Modest travel and accommodation costs will be provided.
The prize consists of the following:
– a payment of £250
– a professional performance of the piece during the Bangor Music Festival 2024
– a recording of the work (for personal use only)
– a new commission by the Bangor Music Festival for performance during the 2025 festival (worth up to £750 and subject to successful funding and practicalities of performance).

All entries should be done electronically through the online entry form found below.
Only the title of the piece (and not the composer’s name) should appear on the score. Any entries with a name on the score or the audio files will be disqualified. The score should be submitted as a PDF document and an mp3 recording or audio realisation.
