Guto Pryderi Puw came to prominence after winning the Composer’s Medal at the National Eisteddfod in 1995. He was later appointed as the inaugural Resident Composer with the BBC NOW between 2006-2010, receiving a Proms commission (‘…onyt agoraf y drws…’) and winning the Radio 3 Listeners’ Award at the British Composer Awards (Concerto for Oboe ) in 2007. In 2014 he received the Sir Geraint Evans Award by the Welsh Music Guild for ‘his significant contribution to Welsh music.’ His first opera, Y Tŵr was premiered to critical acclaim by Music Theatre Wales in 2017. He was appointed as a lecturer at the School of Music, Drama and Performance at Bangor University in 2006 and is currently the Head of Composition.
