Looking ahead to Women’s Day (with a BBC Radio 3 concert broadcast) on the 8th of March, this concert of music by Welsh women composers showcased some of our finest orchestral music in recent years, from the heroine’s anguish in Rhian Samuel’s Clytemnestra for soprano and orchestra and based on the Greek Tragedy Agamemnon, to Hilary Tann’s ‘deepest respect’ to the victims of Tiananmen Square in The Open Field. Also included in the concert were premieres of three new pieces by the most gifted of the younger generation.
Hilary Tann – The Open Field
Mared Emlyn – Porthor (Whistling Sands) – Bangor Music Festival Comission
Sarah Lianne Lewis – Is there no seeker of dreams that were?
Lynne Plowman – Catching Shadows
Rhian Samuel – Clytemnestra
